TripAdvisor Introduces Travel Advice from "Friend of a Friend"

The World's Largest Travel Site Expands Facebook Integration to Provide Dramatically More Personalized Travel Insight

NEWTON, Mass., April 11, 2012 -- TripAdvisor®, the world's largest travel site*, today launched its "Friend of a Friend" feature that highlights trusted reviews and opinions from friends of Facebook friends. Representing the next step in making travel planning more social for the TripAdvisor global community, travelers are now ten times more likely to see personalized travel advice on TripAdvisor.

"Travel advice from friends is incredibly useful, but your inner circle may not have all the answers on a particular hotel or destination you are researching," says Adam Medros, vice president of global product for TripAdvisor. "The Friend of a Friend feature increases the probability of an even greater personalized TripAdvisor experience by highlighting opinions from a larger network of travelers that know the people you trust."

Friendly Advice – And More of It
Every day, Facebook-connected people write one out of four reviews submitted on TripAdvisor. Each of these travelers has an average of 190 people in their friend network[1]. With access to friends of friends, the average network can soar to tens of thousands, making social travel planning exponentially more useful.

How It Works
When researching a hotel, restaurant, or attraction, people will see their friends' reviews first, followed by reviews of their friends' friends. They can use the TripAdvisor private message service to ask anyone in this network for further advice. As always, reviews from the greater TripAdvisor community will also be displayed below friends' reviews so travelers can continue to benefit from the wisdom of the crowds.

Travelers can adjust their privacy settings within their Account Settings on Facebook to limit what their Facebook friends can see on TripAdvisor. Travelers who do not want access to their friends' travel advice, or don't want their friends to see their own reviews, can opt out.

The "Friend of a Friend" feature is now available on TripAdvisor sites worldwide with the exception of China and Egypt. To experience Friend of a Friend, please log in to Facebook via www.tripadvisor.com.

The Happiest Place on Earth Is About to Get Happier

Disneyland Resort Announces June 15 Grand Opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle Theatre in Expanded Disney California Adventure Park

Engines Start Revving at Cars Land this Summer, Adding More Magic than Ever and Completing Five-Year Expansion of Disneyland Resort

ANAHEIM, Calif., March 7, 2012 -- The Happiest Place on Earth will get even happier June 15, 2012, with the grand opening of Cars Land , Buena Vista Street and the Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure park. The exciting, new additions will complete the five-year expansion of Disneyland Resort, a premier, multi-day vacation destination in Southern California with two theme parks, three hotels and the Downtown Disney shopping and dining district.

With four new attractions opening at Disney California Adventure park, full day-to-night experiences at both parks, and the magical transformation of the Disneyland Hotel with new pools, themed suites and remodeled rooms, guests of all ages will enjoy more fun and adventure than ever before at the Disneyland Resort.

Cars Land expands Disney California Adventure by 12 acres and immerses guests in the thrilling world of the Disney•Pixar blockbuster "Cars." Guests will feel as if they have stepped into the town of Radiator Springs as they enjoy three family attractions showcasing characters and settings from the movie, plus "Cars"-themed dining and shopping locations such as Flo's V8 Cafe, Ramone's House of Body Art and Radiator Springs Curios.

One of the largest and most elaborate attractions ever created for a Disney park, Radiator Springs Racers is a twisting, turning, high-speed adventure through Ornament Valley and the town of Radiator Springs. Luigi's Flying Tires invites guests to glide on air aboard special tires, whirling around with their pals. At Mater's Junkyard Jamboree , guests will whip around behind a baby tractor and enjoy tunes from a giant jukebox built from Mater's most prized possessions.

Starting June 15, guests will enter Disney California Adventure along Buena Vista Street, a place that transports them to an era when Walt Disney arrived in California with new dreams: 1920s Los Angeles. Buena Vista Street features Red Car Trolleys , inspired by the transportation system that once served Southern California, and the Carthay Circle Theatre, modeled after the site of the 1937 world premiere of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Carthay Circle Theatre will include a lounge and the elegant Carthay Circle Restaurant, designed to be the premier dining location in Disney California Adventure.

Adding to the fun at Disney California Adventure this summer will be the new Mad T Party in Hollywood Land, the return of Pixar Play Parade, and the new Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop at Pacific Wharf. Mad T Party will feature nighttime, family fun inspired by the wild and whimsical world of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."

The summer debuts of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle Theatre complement previous additions to the park, including the 4D fun of Toy Story Mania; the spectacular after-dark "World of Color" show; The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel's Undersea Adventure; Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill restaurants, plus the re-themed attractions Mickey's Fun Wheel, Silly Symphony Swings and Goofy's Sky School.

To accommodate a media preview and make final preparations for the exciting debuts, Disney California Adventure will be closed June 14. The fun, new attractions, locations and entertainment will open to the public June 15.

About the Disneyland Resort
The Disneyland Resort features two spectacular theme parks – Disneyland (the original Disney theme park) and Disney California Adventure park – plus three hotels and the Downtown Disney District, comprised of unique dining, entertainment and shopping experiences. The Resort's hotels are the luxurious, 948-room Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, which also features 50 two-bedroom equivalent DVC units; the magical, newly renovated, 969-room Disneyland Hotel – both AAA Four Diamond properties – and the 481-room Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel with its "day-at-the-beach" fun. The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows Turns 100 and Introduces a Variety of Offerings to Mark its Milestone Birthday Year

Beloved by entertainment royalty, a haven for the world's famous, and now a century-old landmark

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 6, 2012 -- When The Beverly Hills Hotel opened its doors on May 12, 1912, two years before the city of Beverly Hills was officially incorporated, it signaled the birth of the community and became a cherished second home to generations of entertainment names. Known to insiders as "The Pink Palace," and featuring not only the luxury hotel and iconic Polo Lounge restaurant but also a collection of Bungalows which have welcomed the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon and more, The Beverly Hills Hotel remains one of our nation's most enduring icons.

"Over the past century, The Beverly Hills Hotel has become a second home to celebrity icons, community leaders, social dignitaries and industry tycoons," said Edward A. Mady, regional director of West Coast USA and general manager of Dorchester Collection. "As we turn 100 this year, a variety of special offerings have been created to capture the mystique of Hollywood's past and present, and pay homage to our coveted heritage," he adds.

In addition to a life-size lobby photo gallery showcasing its glamorous history, dining surprises, a trove of packages and red carpet experiences will highlight the hotel's celebration. Following are planned highlights for the year:

Dining and Entertainment
  • "These Walls Are Talking" Cocktail Menu at The Polo Lounge and Bar Nineteen12, featuring anecdotal potables including a 100-year cocktail priced at $100 and served in an engraved collectible keepsake glass coupe with 100-year design. Cocktail favorites include The Rebel, inspired by the pants-wearing Marlene Dietrich; The Recluse, a nod to Bungalow long-timer Howard Hughes, who left his Cadillac parked next to the hotel for two years – long enough for the tires to go flat and for plants to begin growing in and out of the car; and The Norma Jean, featuring Dom Perignon by the glass presented in loving memory of Bungalow resident Marilyn Monroe.
  • "Pop-Up 1912 Pricing" selected once a week in each dining venue, one lucky weekly table will be randomly selected to have their check amount converted to 1912 dollars.
  • Food and beverage delights throughout the year, including a 100-Year Anniversary label Champagne; vintage menu covers sharing historic photos taken at The Polo Lounge, Fountain Coffee Shop and Cabana Cafe; and a Happy Birthday cake in the Polo Lounge.

Specialty Packages
  • The Centennial Celebration, offering luxury accommodations, two complimentary cocktails from the "These Walls Are Talking" cocktail menu, keepsake 100-Year candle and chocolate truffle box, and daily American breakfast for two. Price begins at $660.
  • The Little Legends Family Package for young guests, featuring a kids' red carpet arrival with photo shoot and an autograph seeker, and complete with boa, sunglasses and top hat. Little Legends also receive a VVIP welcome card, a choice of milk shake or ice cream sundae at The Fountain Coffee Shop, a personalized chocolate star "Walk of Fame" amenity, and an "I'm a Little Legend" 100-year tee-shirt. Price begins at $610.
Spa
  • Celebration Spa Services, each priced at $100, including The Pink Palace Manicure and Pedicure, Diamond Anniversary Facial, and the Caviar Express Massage.
"The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows - The First 100 Years"
  • The long-anticipated book launch of Robert S. Anderson's "The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows - The First 100 Years." The great grandson of the hotel's original owner Margaret Anderson, Mr. Anderson is also the official historian for The Beverly Hills Hotel. He has exclusive access to cherished images, historical documents and colorful anecdotes related to the hotel's fabled history -- and he tells his story with complete accuracy. A labor of love, "The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows - The First 100 Years" offers never-been-seen-before photos along with celebrated images of the hotel's many illustrious guests, and will be unveiled at the launch party slated for May at the hotel. Mr. Anderson's book will be available for purchase via the hotel's website and in the Logo Shop, and will also be placed in hotel guest rooms and other high end stores. For additional information, please contact Diane Shader Smith, 310.386.6803; dianeshadersmith@gmail.com; or visit TheBeverlyHillsCollection.com.
The Time Capsule Revealed
  • Opening of a historic Beverly Hills Hotel time capsule, placed at the property's front red-carpet entrance in 1993 and to be opened this year in honor of the City of Beverly Hills. While its contents are reportedly "unknown," artifacts including a cigar from frequent guest George Burns and a daily newspaper are rumored to be revealed.
The significance of this centennial year includes a look ahead to the future with the start of a thoughtful refurbishment program in March of 2012 to enhance the vibrancy of the hotel. "Through this loving and careful process, we plan to maintain much of the building's originality while adding elegant and sophisticated new touches," says Mr. Mady. "The hotel's signature banana leaves, green and white stripes and famous pink exterior will remain a constant, while the lobby, Polo Lounge, guestrooms, and famed pool and cabanas will be stylishly refreshed to make us internationally relevant with today's luxury traveler," he adds.

For more information or to make reservations, please contact 310.276.2251 or 800.283.8885 or visit www.beverlyhillshotel.com.

Fort Bragg, California Boasts Some Of The World's Best Beaches

Seven Beautiful Beaches Just Minutes From The City's Downtown

FORT BRAGG, Calif., Feb. 29, 2012 -- Are Fort Bragg beaches the best in the world? We think so.

Over a 12-mile stretch of Northern California's Mendocino Coast, our beaches offer more things to do, more rugged coastline, more hidden coves and sea caves, more interesting rocks, more birds, more clear water and more solitude than anyplace else we know of.

You can picnic, run, beach comb, explore tide pools, watch whales, go birding, ride horses, or photograph big waves … and even bigger sunsets. Three of our beaches are world renown for colorful frosted sea glass, tumbled into myriad fanciful shapes by majestic waves.

Although our beaches are enjoyed by surfers, abalone divers, sea kayakers, families, couples, adventure seekers, equestrians and pet lovers, you'll rarely see a crowd.

Fort Bragg also is proud to be the official "Gateway" to the California Coastal National Monument along the Mendocino Coast. Located off the 1,100 miles of California coastline, the California Coastal National Monument comprises more than 20,000 small islands, rocks, exposed reefs, and pinnacles between Mexico and Oregon. All those beautiful rocks are home to sea lions, harbor seals, pelicans, gulls and abundant marine life.

In addition to our Coastal National Monument, here are seven great Fort Bragg beaches to explore:

Safety Reminder:
As with beaches everywhere, beware of possible hazards, including slippery rocks, crumbling cliffs, and sneaker waves (large waves that seemingly surge out of nowhere). Our clean clear waters are cold (52-54 degrees Fahrenheit) so wetsuits are essential for swimming, surfing, or diving. Keeping children (and dogs) out of the water during big surf days is just good commonsense.

I Need a Vacation!

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 28, 2012 -- Think about that headline, if only for just a second.

Now, ask yourself a question: How many times do you hear that phrase in any given week?

Chances are you hear it a lot. You hear it around the office water cooler, you hear it at the dinner table, you hear it as you pick up the kids from school, at the 19th hole after a round of golf and you hear it (from that little voice inside your head) after clearing your 118th email of the day. Fact is, you hear it almost every time you socially integrate and it's not accidental.

Let's be realistic; we live in a pressure cooker of a world. Forget about the normal responsibilities that come with day-to-day living. The information intensity that our society has experienced (over a relatively short period of time) has rendered many of us to monitoring at least 4 channels of information daily. Social Media, Professional Social Media, business emails, personal emails, voice mails, text messaging, land lines, newspapers, magazines, blogs - just pick your 4 favorites and feel free to add snail mail and faxes to the list.

Is it any wonder we could all use a vacation? Take heart, gentle readers, because there's never been a better time to start planning your next, much needed, vacation.

Circle your calendars because National Plan A Vacation Week is right around the corner, March 18th - 24th: http://www.planavacationweek.com .

This powerful and broad-reaching initiative will showcase a world of vacation options with something for everyone's tastes, budget and time constraints. From American Discoveries to Extraordinary Europe; Family Fun, Pacific Paradises, Tropical Adventures, Viva Mexico and Occasions for Amazement, National Plan A Vacation Week promises to bring value for your dollar and things far more important.

Those things are re-connecting with family, loved ones and friends or just going solo on a sojourn of self-discovery. It's about rejuvenation, revitalization and experiencing the things that enrich our lives, our souls.

It's about making memories - the kind of memories that last longer than your hard drive after it's fried and your picture folder goes to cyber sanitation heaven. It's about taking care of you.

When it comes to planning a getaway there's nobody better to turn to than a Professional Travel Agent. Like lawyers, accountants and hairdressers/barbers, you want to find a good one and hang on for dear life. While their demise was trumpeted by many (all of the pundits, as it happens, had no fundamental understanding of their role, skill sets and value) Professional Agents have adapted, are thriving and generating more business than ever before.

Professional Agents have endured because they add value. They have the expertise, the skill sets and an appreciation for not only what to do, where to go and what to see. They can offer counsel on the things that an individual who isn't a Travel Professional would never know - the types of things that could quite possibly result in a less than great experience.

Remember - Without a Travel Agent, You're on Your Own.

National Plan A Vacation Week would even suggest that you look at a Professional Travel Agent as your personal GPS on the highway to vacation happiness.

Now get out and make some memories - and while you're at it, have the time of your life!
